Physical TraitsThe human residents of the Land of Rivers are known as Riverlanders. They tend to have a medium to dark skin tone and aren’t usually very pale unless they have relatives from other countries, such as Dutoria or Meros. As it’s common to spend long periods outdoors during the summer months, they usually get dark tans.
The average height range is 5’3 to 5’5 for women, and 5’7 to 5’9 for men. The typical body type is wiry and muscular, with long legs and arms; stocky builds are only really seen in those with Dutorian, Merosian, or Xocrian ancestry. Brown eyes are common, with hazels and greens being seen frequently as well, but blue eyes are extremely rare. Their similar build and looks to the peoples of Padwell and High Heart make some wonder if they have a shared point of origin, but no one can know for sure. FashionThe people of the Land of Rivers mostly wear simple but colourful garb. Blues, greens, browns and yellows are common colours for their clothing. Due to their cool winters, people in the Land of Rivers have to dress very warmly, with snowshoes, skiis and ice cleats not being a rare sight when one has to travel in the snowy months of the year. Ice skating is a popular winter sport.
Many of their clothing styles resemble that found in early river civilizations, such as Ancient China, Mesopotamia, and the Indus River Valley Civilization, although with more modern influences from neighbouring nations reaching in. Despite this the preferred garb of the people of the Land of Rivers hasn't changed much over the past centuries, and clothing from hundred-year-old art can still be seen worn in the modern cities of the nation. Patterns reminiscent of water, rivers, scales and rain are popular. Many people make necklaces or bracelets out of shells and cool rocks they find in the rivers. It’s a point of national pride for them to have such natural beauty in their territory. There is an ancient practice of tattooing passed down through time by the Land of Rivers’ human residents, usually done in the early teens as a sort of ‘coming of age’ ceremony. Tattoos are done in dark blue, violet, or black ink and usually feature lunar motifs, such as moons, constellations, and stars, or serpent motifs. |
