The Story of the Beginning [??? - 131 B.A.]
The state-sanctioned story of how the Augury first established the nation of Ironbrook many centuries ago.
Long ago, there was a land whose name has been long forgotten. It was a beautiful land, however a terrible and cruel land. Led by a king who is long dead, the king was cruel and evil. He ran his land by conquering and enslaving others. This is where the Augury’s legend began.
The Augury and her sister, Rosana, were slaves under the evil king. They were beat and hurt and forever scarred by the cruel king’s treatment. Bound in chains, against the dying light, this is where the seeds of resentment festered in the sisters.
One day, Rosana was being dragged away by an officer with ill intentions. The Augury was unable to help her sister when suddenly, as Rosana wailed and screamed, the ground began to shake and stir and thunder. Skeletal remains rose to the surface, plodding towards the officer and retching him away from her. They killed him.
It was at this moment, the Augury knew they stood a chance against the evil king. For months afterward, the Augury spread rumors of a girl with a gift, giving the other slaves hope. All the while, Rosana practiced this strange gift she had been given.
Finally, after months, the day had come. Breaking free of their chains. The Augury and Rosana marched to the castle. With a skeletal army of cadavers at their back, no one stopped them. As they marched, the living watched, fearful, yet hopeful.
Bursting into the King’s throne room. At first he insulted the sisters. Then when he saw his end was near, he pleaded for mercy. The Augury, ever the confident sister, walked forward and slit his throat without hesitation. The king’s blood soaked the throne. And Augury and Rosana the First stepped away triumphant.
But the kingdom was in ruins. The evil king had tainted it and let it crumble. So it was up to the sisters to build a new Kingdom.
This is the beginning of Ironbrook.
Ironbrook’s first monument was the pit that the former slaves threw their chains in. Then they went to the top of Mount Zenith began to build the first homes of the peak.
The First Revolution [121 B.A.]
Though no one knows where Rosana is, many claim that they can see a young woman in the mists, walking towards the Perch. But when they look back, she is gone.
The Second Revolution [266 A.E.D.]
Eventually, it was eventually found out that he was colluding with Hovell and amassing an insurgency to storm the Augury and surround her. They failed miserably, and they were executed for treason. The Augury also dismantled the Chief of State position, adding it as a permanent title to herself.
The Third Revolution [453 A.E.D.]
They hit Victoria, Opportunity, and Ubris Lumen and held them hostage for a year. They were trying to advance into Zenith to get the Augury. The leader, a necromancer named Zhviko of Rhuin led the rebellion. Zhviko made a daring plan. While the combined forces went into and ambush Zenith, he would sneak in and kill Augury.
It...didn’t go well. Zhviko underestimated the God living in the frail woman’s skin. The Augury killed him easily, bringing his body to show the rebellion. She made an example out of Rhuin, burning it, and all of its citizens to the ground. Only ash and ruins remain. The Augury erased Rhuin from the map, so no one could ever find it. There has not been a revolution since.
Modern Day [448 A.E.D. Onwards]
Recent events in Ironbrook.
In 448, a powerful Lightning Familiar attacked the Augury and caused a power outage in the Capital and the surrounding area, so severe it lasted for the better part of a year. Their companion was killed and they were chased out of the city, but the damage was already done.
In January 497, the Augury's previous Necromancer, Nastya Augur, was murdered with a knife. She was around fifty years old and had served the Augury for a long time, and her death was a terrible blow to the nation. The assassin was able to escape the Augury's Perch, however, and it took the brave Talons a few months to find them. They were arrested and the anti-government group they were working for was dismantled, restoring peace and security to Ironbrook.
After Nastya's death, the eight-year-old Arius was taken on as the official Necromancer for the Augury; this time with more guards around to keep them safe in case any malcontents were inspired to try again.
