Darkling Leadership
Monarch (Queen/King)
Queen Libré is the current monarch of the darklings. Technically, anyone can be queen or king of the darklings. Among darkling society, it is one of the most perilous occupations.
The title of monarch is often earned by a darkling through the right of conquest. The right of conquest means if a darkling successfully kills the old monarch, they by right are able to claim the position as their own. Once there were many darklings vying for the position. In recent years, now that Libré has proved her abilities and slain not one but four wannabee assassins, these attacks have gone down. Especially with the new wave of occupations that has risen in society. |
The Court
For thousands of years, the darkling courts included only the wealthiest of darklings. Darklings with not just gold in their talons; they also had corruption in their hearts. They advise the current monarch on the current events, affairs within darkling kingdom, and affairs outside the Darkling Kingdom. They swayed the monarch in their own corrupt direction, completely disregarding the normal, average darklings that have suffered this way.
But the new Queen is remedying this. She has stripped the titles of these corrupt lords and brought in normal darklings, average darklings, so that she may learn what is really going on within the kingdom. She is also not quite sure the old lords knew of the events going on outside of their caves, so Libré has started to implement an ambassador program for the darklings, sending both darklings out to other, faraway kingdoms and inviting visiting kingdoms into their home.
The Queen has been picking her court advisors by hand, but eventually will transition to the clusters to picking their own darkling representatives. She knows it will take a long time, but she has a long time to make the darklings better than ever before. There is a larger Assembly of Darklings that argue over current events and then send their thoughts to the Queen and her personal Parliament of dragons she chooses and then they vote on the issue. The Queen serves to break up ties or veto issues, then putting forth her own idea and sending it back to to the Assembly. While the governing is not perfect, it does its job so far and keeps the peace…for now.
