Tidekeeper Abilities
Saltwater Tidekeepers
|
Tidekeepers are exceptionally strong swimmers and the only species of dragon capable of breathing underwater without the aid of magic. They have a naturally keen sense of direction, making them great guides across the seas Despite their docile appearance, they are very strong. Tidekeepers may breathe in the air as well, but it is uncomfortable, and their skin dries out when not in water.
While incapable of flight, they are able to glide above the water for short distances. But perhaps their most unique and fascinating ability is their telepathy; tidekeepers cannot speak in the traditionally manner, and instead project their thoughts directly into the minds of those they wish to communicate with. The individual must be close enough to the tidekeeper order to receive a message, although not necessarily within sight. Left and right illustrations by MetaphysicalMonsters; they are an artistic representation of tidekeeper telepathy, which does not actually have any visual effect. |

Abyssal Tidekeepers
Artwork by J-Haskell. |
Abyssal Tidekeepers entirely lack the normal tidekeeper ability of telepathy. They cannot project their thoughts to others and instead speak a strange verbal dialect of the tidekeeper language, which even their saltwater kin struggle to understand more than a few scattered words of. Some theorize that they may use a form of sign language to communicate with other Abyssals, but this is unconfirmed. Instead, they have very sharp teeth, the ability to handle immense pressure, and are very fast. Their eyesight is very poor, especially when exposed to light.
Abyssals cannot stand daylight and even a particularly bright full moon can keep them away from venturing to the surface at night. This has sparked all kinds of Tidekeeper legends about how they are repelled by the Holy Light of The Mother. |
