Siege of the North
This event will run from December 1rst 2022 to January 31rst 2023.
The dark of polar night creeps across the Realm’s far north and will cloak the land in unending twilight until the coming of spring. Though the people of Dutoria are no strangers to winter, the cold winds and snowstorms blowing down from the Frozen Gates are chilling…
…But they are soon to find that cool winds aren’t the only thing coming down from the north. Creatures of living ice, as inexorable as the crushing weight of glaciers rolling across the landscape, have swept down in numbers never before seen. Citizens flee their homesteads to shelter behind the great walled cities of the north, many reminded of not-so-distant days when they had to flee aggressors from the seas. The city of Dura closes its gates behind the last farmer as what, from a distance, appears to be dozens of scuttling icebergs begins to take shape on the horizon. Together, Dura’s elites and commoners alike will try to fend off the horde of ice monsters for the winter, hoping to hold out until the worst passes; should they fail, cities further south may be threatened as well. The Frozen Gates has long been both an enigma and a danger to those who make their homes near its shores. In recent years the storms sweeping down from the frigid continent have worsened, bone-chilling blizzards accompanied by droves of monsters made from living ice, animated by some unknown force. Being one of the closest countries to the Gates, Dutoria has been plagued by these monsters for centuries. High Lady Verda Primrose II, only recently come into her full power as ruler, hoped to find a way to bring the danger posed by the Frozen Gates’ peculiar inhabitants to an end. With the counsel of her aunt, Duchess Lárensína Primrose, Verda summons Dutoria’s allies to discuss the threat the Gates pose. From within Dutoria itself Count Aron Dahlia, ruler of the Forest Province, his familiar Harmonia, as well as the current Lady-Commander of Dutoria and monster-hunter, Runa Rose, travel to Dura to attend. Representing Xocrium’s king are Queen-Mother Margery Darius-Phoenine and King-Father Gilberto Phoenine, with the gifted young strategist Lady Gwenore Basil and Lord-General Haveron Maxmour as security. And from Nuova Cadere, a far northern research outpost of the Land of Rivers, came the researchers Ignis Stet and Gloria Ex Undis. While the latter especially isn’t too pleased to be spending time in the company of those complicit in dragon-slaying, neither wishes to be discluded from discussions related to the Frozen Gates, a place they have been researching for decades. News of the coming discussions attracts curious watchers, intrigued by what may be about to take place—and it is just as these representatives arrive that a great storm begins to blow down from the Gates, and with it a mass of ice monsters greater than any seen before. Whatever Verda’s ambitions may have been that winter, they are swept aside by the immediate danger to her city’s survival. Once the people from surrounding farmsteads have fled safely behind Dura’s walls, the gates are closed and the city prepares to weather the storm. Trapped by the harsh winter cold and ice-rimed monstrosities, those stuck behind Dura’s walls will have to work together to survive the siege to come. If they can hold out until the worst passes, they may yet survive; but if the city falls, cities further south may be threatened as well.

You can enter into this event by creating an illustration, story or RP relevant to the event premise (this event does not have prompt lists) and taking place in the city of Dura during the ice monster siege of the winter of 505-506.

There are no minimum requirements for your entry. It should, however, be clearly relevant to the event, and you will receive EP (event points) based on a mix of effort and a random bonus score! Do not submit “EP sheets” (ie; images with multiple drawings of the same character on it with intent to grind hundreds of points in one entry) - only the first appearance of a character will be counted for EP, unless in the case of comics or animation entries.
Read about counting EP at this link!
The objective for those defending the city of Dura is simple; survive the storm and the hordes of monsters made from living ice that are swarming outside its walls. While most of the creatures are stuck on the ground, there are some rare ice monsters that are capable of flight and able to pass over the city walls unopposed—as well as some, easily mistaken for icebergs, that haunt Dura’s harbour.
