Wrath of the Sun King
This event will run from June 1rst to July 15th 2022.
Unrest in the Tyr Kingdom has reached a boiling point as a group of refugees taking shelter in the city of Memory stand off with the soldiers hunting them who have made camp outside the city’s borders.
As the King of the Tyr Kingdom strikes against the Scions, the events that follow will determine the fate of the kingdom and its people for years to come.
After an attack on the military base guarding the entrance to the Deep Provinces in 503 allowed Guile and a group of miners and vagrants to escape into the Upper Provinces, King Tigerlilly Tyr has been desperate to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice. The group, assisted by a traitorous young soldier, Asp Daybreak, has been harder to pin down than he expected and was able to wander the Tyr Kingdom freely for months after committing their crime.
In the early weeks of April 505, Tigerlilly’s soldiers, under the command of Général Schist, were finally able to track them down to the Temple of Hyleg in the Sunlit City, where they were stalled by the Scions of the Sun there… only for the fugitives to manage to reach the city of Memory before they could be cut off, where the Scions of the Sun charged with keeping the city offered them refuge. Schist set up camp on the slope of a neighbouring mountain and sent a messenger to bring word of the Scions’ actions to the King and to call for reinforcements, making his intentions clear; if the Scions did not hand over the criminals they were sheltering, Schist would enter the sacred city of Memory by force and take them. The Scions refused; they would not betray those who had sought safety with them, least of all a group who was little more than a flock of desperate refugees led by two young dragons who were barely more than children themselves. When news reached King Tigerlilly of the events at Memory and the Scions sheltering Guile, his reaction was far more extreme than anyone could have anticipated. This would be the last time, he swore to his council, that the Scions would defy the rule of law in his kingdom; they would not get away with this again. He gave his soldiers simple orders; they were to go to the Scions in their homes, temples and other places of refuge and demand they swear allegiance to the King. If they refused then they were enemies of the crown and to be treated as such. What followed was vicious attacks on the Scions of the Sun that left the rest of the Tyr kingdom confused and alarmed. Those who did not swear fealty to the King were forced to flee for their own safety, as soldiers either attempted to arrest or kill them on the spot. In Memory, Général Schist and his growing group of soldiers waited as news and refugees, many coming through underground tunnels the Scions keep between Memory and the Deep Provinces, trickled into the sacred city, and has given them one more chance to open the city to him or face his men in combat. Within the city itself, two camps have formed; one under a Scion named Talc Sunchaser, who thinks that the risk of the city and the burial grounds of the entire sundrake people being destroyed is too great to fight and that they should seek a peaceful solution, and one under a Scion named Skoll Sunchaser, who believes that they ought to fight to the last to defend those who have sought refuge with them and not allow the city of Memory to fall into the talons of those hostile to the Scions. The rest of the Tyr kingdom watches events at Memory closely. Whatever the fate of the city and its occupants, it will define the future of the sundrakes for years to come.

Scion Talc Sunchaser believes the best route for everyone is to seek a compromise with the soldiers encamped outside the city of Memory. They can’t fight off the entirety of the Tyr Kingdoms’ soldiers, whatever Skoll says, and even if they won the first battle, the city of Memory might very well get destroyed. The remains of the dead are kept in glass vessels, after all.
She knows that it’s far from ideal, and wishes there were a better solution than fight or give in, but it’s better than throwing their lives away for a hopeless cause.
Scion Skoll Sunchaser, as a former miner during the civil war, has little love for the King and is utterly opposed to the idea of standing down and allowing him to have his way with ‘Guile’ or the city. They ought to fight, take a stand against the injustice of recent years - if they, the keepers of the very heart of the Tyr Kingdom, won’t fight for justice, who will? The thought of handing over the young Shade that has been taking refuge in Memory is utterly reprehensible to Skoll and she won't even entertain the thought.
To betray someone who came to them for refuge would go against all the principles the Scions stand for, and she won't be party to destroying their order or the life of a young dragon who, to Skoll, did nothing wrong.
Although Général Schist wants nothing more than to bring the righteous wrath of the King down upon these traitors, he fears that open fighting in the streets of Memory might result in the destruction of the most sacred place in the Tyr Kingdom. So, instead, he has settled for calling for reinforcements and setting up a camp to the north of the city to wait out the city’s residents.
He and Chevalière Auriga Starstrike have argued on multiple occasions on who is in command in his camp, but as the majority of the soldiers there are used to serving Schist, the captain is in control for the time being. The City of Memory [setting guide!]

Journey to MemoryWhat brings your character to the city of Memory? Has unrest in the Tyr Kingdom driven them to take shelter within the streets of the sacred city, or were they hired to act as a guard or additional muscle for a refugee or Schist’s encampment outside of the city? Did they travel there with anyone else, or are they alone among strangers? Who do they encounter first, and what’s their first impression of the city of Memory/Schist’s camp? Consider what may have brought your character to Memory, and think about what their thoughts and feelings towards recent events and the major NPCs might be at the start of this event. Sunchaser’s PleaScion Talc fears that if they rile up the soldiers encamped outside the city too much, they could risk the destruction of Memory in a pointless skirmish. She has asked some of the newcomers to the city to assist her in trying to make a favourable impression on Schist’s soldiers. She’s busy with her job as a Keeper of the City of Memory and doing what she can to help the refugees settle in, but she’s asked your character to ferry a letter and some decent food to Schist’s Camp on her behalf. Schist’s CommandYour character has found themself in the midst of Général Schist’s camp, be it on an errand for Talc or Skoll or for other reasons, and faces the sundrake soldier’s scrutiny. He’s wary of strangers but understands that you might be useful, and has requested that your character work for him - for the king - to resolve this situation. If you can provide information on the city that could be potentially useful for apprehending the criminals who have made a mockery of justice in the Tyr Kingdom over the past few years, you will be richly rewarded for your work. Alternatively, for characters that might have reason to be friendly with the Général, he is a bit less suspicious in his interactions with them, but still makes the same request for their aid. Does your character agree to work with the Général, or try to get out of the camp without getting in too much trouble for refusing the dragon’s offer? Eyes in the ShadowsNot long after their arrival in Memory, your character is approached by Scion Skoll with a request; as you’re a newcomer to the city and unknown to the soldiers camped to the north, you could slip into their number and get a good look around at their numbers and what sort of weapons they’ve got. If they’re to defend the city against the soldiers, the more they know about them, the better. Does your character go along with Skoll’s plan, or do they perhaps intend to stay with Schist’s encampment? After all, the King of the Tyr Kingdom is a powerful dragon, and not one to piss off lightly. RespiteBoth the refugees now sheltering within Memory’s gates and the soldiers in the camp to the north have been travelling with little rest for days and it’s beginning to catch up with them. The most common ways that they have been dealing with the stress have either been seeking rest whenever they can find it - even when they’re meant to be doing other things - or becoming snappish and irritable. Tell about how your character has been dealing with that; do they encourage others to take a well-earned break, take time to assist those who have been wounded, sit back and relax themself, or do they manage to get into a fight with someone in Memory or Schist’s camp?

Double the TroubleAlthough Jasper and Shine, being shade and suntouched, don’t always see eye-to-eye, they both take great satisfaction in being as much of a headache as they can possibly be for King Tigerlilly’s soldiers. Over the past couple of days, they’ve been plotting a grand trick to pull on Schist’s Camp in the middle of the night—to make them regret having chased them this far—and have been looking to recruit some extra hands to make it really something special. Just don’t ask Shine where she found the fireworks. It’s a secret. They Come in the NightOver the past few nights there have been dark shadows passing overhead at odd hours—some of Schist’s soldiers, scoping out the city when they think no one will be awake to see them. But Skoll isn’t the only one who’s noticed their spying, and isn’t the only one who wants to do something about it. She’s—quietly, so as not to upset Talc—looking for volunteers to wait for them tonight and give them a good scare and put a stop to it. While she hasn’t asked your character to fight the soldiers, it’s clear that Skoll doesn’t think it would be the worst thing in the world if you did. Guile’s GuiltThose taking refuge within the City of Memory have been coping in different ways with the stress of being trapped within its walls… but many have turned to point fingers at ‘Guile’ and blamed her for recent tragedies. The young dragon isn’t quite sure what to think of things herself, anymore. Especially not with Scion Talc occasionally coming to speak with her alone, trying to persuade her to turn herself in to save the city. She thought she was helping those around her by getting them out of the Deep Provinces, but things have spiralled so far out of control, and she can’t help but wonder if this really is all her fault. What does your character think of the situation? Do they blame ‘Guile’, and think that things will be better for everyone if she turns herself in, or do they think that her actions were justified and that they should fight to defend her? MistakesPerseus was once a miner before they became part of King Tigerlilly’s army—they know that things feel inescapable down there, in the dark and the cold—but the path these refugees have taken isn’t the solution. Trying the King’s patience like this will just get them all killed. They’ve managed to make contact with a few of the refugees that might be willing to hear them out and leave Memory before it’s too late, and are looking for some backup to make sure that they’re not seen talking by the rest of the insurgents. Snake in the GrassThe young soldier who aided ‘Guile’ and her fellows in their escape from the Deep Provinces, Asp Daybreak, is looking for discreet assistance from within Memory. He knows some of the soldiers working under Général Schist, and believes he may be able to sway them to help should things go poorly—but he’s well aware of what might happen if he’s misjudged his former comrades, and doesn’t want to go alone. He’s approached your character, and perhaps a few others, to come with him and help him try to convince a few old friends not to allow the Général to lead them into doing something they’ll regret for the rest of their lives. Reporting InFor characters who agreed to help spy for Scion Skoll or Général Schist, the time has come to report on your findings. What information has your character discovered? Do they plan on following through with their agreement with either dragon, or do they perhaps plan to double-cross them or ambush whoever arrives to speak with them? Does the report go well, or do they get caught with the enemy? For other characters, they come across someone else—another PC or NPC—reporting to the opposite camp. Do they attack the spy, try to sneak off and tell someone else, or keep their discovery quiet?

Final PreparationsReinforcements from Dragon’s Eye City have arrived in Schist’s Camp, bearing the blood-red war banner of the King - Tigerlilly Tyr himself has arrived in the foothills surrounding the city. Scion Skoll knows that their time is running out. She’s looking for volunteers to prepare to make a final stand to defend the city and those who have taken refuge there. They’re outnumbered and victory may not be possible, but if they fight hard, they just might be able to allow some of those they’ve promised to protect to get to safety. Lake Four-Shore and the Merosian border aren’t that far. With a… sufficient distraction, some of them might just make it. Draw or write about your character deciding to aid Skoll and preparing for what’s to come. A Chance for a TruceIn a final effort to reach a peaceful solution, Scion Talc Sunchaser has done her best to arrange a peaceful meeting between herself and the newly arrived King Tigerlilly to try to discuss a way to resolve things without bloodshed or risking Memory’s ruin. Although it burns her heart to offer such, she is willing to arrange the peaceful handover of ‘Guile’ if it means the survival of the rest of the city. She’s looking for some volunteers from within the city to come with her to present something of a united front as, unfortunately, Skoll won’t even consider making peace with the King. All the King’s MenThe arrival of King Tigerlilly himself and the reinforcements that the soldiers have been waiting for have finally arrived from Dragon’s Eye, and the balance of power in the camp shifts in Chevalière Auriga Starstrike’s favour and away from General Schist’s control, who may have preferred not to utterly decimate the most sacred city unless they had no other option. She’s decided to organize a flight across the nearby hillsides to show those holding out in the City of Memory just how outnumbered they are, to give them one last chance to surrender before they attack, and perhaps even impress the King with their good order. Draw or write about your character participating in the ‘parade’, or agreeing to take the Chevalière and the King’s final warning to Memory. Surrender now, or be annihilated - they have been far too soft on these insurgents, and now Schist has made a fool of her before her King. Over the MoonMoonstone, the young shade hatchling that accompanied the Deep Province refugees into the City of Memory to take refuge there has vanished, much to the distress of Asp, Jasper, and many others. The pair have rounded up volunteers to help search the city and have thus far turned up no sign of her—though no one has searched the Northern Caverns yet. Could the youngster have somehow wandered down there and gotten lost? Or, Asp’s worst fear, has she been taken by his former comrades? Your character agrees to go into the caverns to search for the hatchling, and eventually discovers that Moonstone may have accidentally located a way out for the dragons trapped within Memory—a passage leading deep into the mountains, to where the city and camp are far from sight and one can see the waters of Lake Four-Shore shining in the distance. SafeguardOver the past several weeks, tensions between the soldiers and those refuging in the city of Memory has grown immensely. Although Scion Talc Sunchaser has tried her best to prevent it, she fears that bloodshed may be inevitable, and has resolved herself to do what she can to protect the urns left in the city from any attack—hiding them in secure places where, even should a battle break out, they will be kept safe. She has been searching for any volunteers to help safeguard the Tyr Kingdom’s sacred dead. A Shining ExampleBefore their flight to the city of Memory, Guile and the refugees travelling with her first took shelter in a Temple to Hyleg in the Sunlit City. After they were discovered by soldiers serving the King, it was the Scions - Shine’s own mother amongst them - who delayed them while Shine guided the refugees through hidden passages out of the city and towards Memory. Before she left, she heard the sounds of fighting and knows that her mother must have died that night. The arrival of King Tigerlilly and his reinforcements at the camp outside Memory has set everyone on edge, and Shine is no exception. Though, your character will discover - either by asking her, or coming across her preparing to sneak out of the city - not for the same reason as the others. She recognizes some of the soldiers in the camp now as the very same dragons who razed her temple to the ground and killed her mother and comrades. Whatever the personal cost, Shine doesn’t want to let that act go unpunished. She wants them dead, they deserve nothing less. Does your character decide to help her in her mission for vengeance, or try to convince her that it’s far too much of a risk?
